6 DAY BIRDING TOURS

DAY ONE:

Arrive at Kigali Airport, meet and transferred to Hotel Des Mille Collines.

 

DAY TWO - THREE:

After breakfast, we will travel to Nyungwe Forest National Park. Nyungwe Forest has the largest montane rain forest in Africa, which has at least 300 bird species many of which are only found in dense forest. Some of the bird life here include Handsome Francolin, Red-collared Mountain Babbler, Regal Sunbird, White-headed Wood-hoopoe, Olive Woodpecker, Mountain Masked, Black-throated and Chestnut-throated Apalis, Mountain Greenbul, Rwenzori Hill-babbler, Stripe-breasted Tit, Red-faced Woodland Warbler, Cinnamon Bracken Warbler, Mountain Yellow Warbler, Northern Puffback, White-starred Robin, Grauer's Rush-Warbler, Rockefeller's Sunbird, Rwenzori Double-collared Sunbird, Dusky Crimson-wing, Barred Long-tailed Cuckoo, Purple-throated as well as Variable Sunbird, Waller's Starling, White-bellied Crested Flycatcher, Kivu Ground Thrush and Archer's Robin-chat, and the Rwenzori Turaco. For the next two days we shall bird Nyungwe Forest trails; we shall begin with the Iswmo Waterfall trail where we have a chance to see the Red-throated Alethe, Neumann’s Warbler, and in the evening we shall bird the Western slopes and we may bird the Deserted Army camp where we have a chance to see the Rwenzori Nightjars. On the second day, we shall bird the Blue trail which is good for the Red-collared Babbler and Archer’s Robin-chat. We will stay both nights at the Gisakura Guest House.

 

DAY FOUR:

We will check out of Gisakura Guest House and bird enroute to Akagera National Park. We will be staying 2 nights at the Akagera Safari Lodge.

 

DAY FIVE:

In the morning, we will go on a game drive in Akagera National Park where we have a chance to see Red-faced Barbet, a variety of Cisticolas, Miombo Wren Warbler, Green-capped Eremomela, Red-faced Crombec, Souza's Shrike, Amethyst Starling,  Brubru, Bare-faced Go-away Bird, Brown Parrot, Cocqui and Hilderbrat’s Francolins, Broad-tailed Warbler, Crested Barbet, Bennett's Woodpecker,  White-winged Black Tit and Shoebill.  Mammals you many also see are: Elephants, Hippos, Reedbuck, Waterbuck, Warthog and Impala. This will be our last night stay at Akagera Safari Lodge.

 

DAY SIX:

In the morning, we will continue the game drive as we head to the airport for your flight. This will conclude your 6 day birding experience.
